5 Famous Pit Bulls

Pit Bulls are often thought of as dangerous, vicious dogs that attack without warning. However, this is simply not the case. Pit Bulls were originally bred as fighting dogs and continue to be used for this purpose today. Despite their history as fighters, they have become one of America’s favorite breeds and can make great pets if given proper training and socialization from a young age. Here are some famous pit bulls:

Champion

NBC’s Parks and Recreation is a show about the people of fictional Pawnee, Indiana. It follows their lives as they work together to make small-town government better for everyone in town. Champion the pit bull has stolen our hearts on Parks and Recreation. She is a rescue dog who was found by April Ludgate, played by Aubrey Plaza, in an animal shelter.

Grunt

The movie Flashdance, starring Jennifer Beals and Michael Nouri, is a romantic drama set in Pittsburgh. The film tells the story of Alex Owens (Jennifer Beals), a welder by day and exotic dancer at night who dreams to become a professional ballet dancer. In the 1983 movie Flashdance, pitbull Jumbo Red played the role of Grunt. He was loyal to Alex and helped her achieve her dream by holding down the fort when she tried making it as a ballerina dancer.

Bud

Bud the pit bull hitchhiked across America in 1903, and his goggles are now on display at the Smithsonian Institution. Accompanying Dr. Horatio Nelson Jackson were his assistant Sewall K Crocker and Bud- a pup with thick glasses who rode shotgun for two whole hours as they made history by driving from San Francisco to New York City.

Sergeant Stubby

Stubby, the most decorated dog of World War I is accredited with capturing a German spy whom he attacked and held until American soldiers took him, prisoner. The commanding officer of 102th Infantry Division where Stubby served as a mascot was so impressed by this brave pup that they promoted him to sergeant.

Petey

The Little Rascals’ Pitbull, Petey was a dog that became famous for his black eye-ring. He became so popular because of movies such as “Our Gang’”. The eyepatch Pal’s eye was caused by makeup artists who wanted him to seem more intimidating at first glance.
